Code of Conduct

MEMBER CODE OF CONDUCT

For the enjoyment of all, our members agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the YMCA. Protecting members and guests utilizing the facility is of paramount concern to the YMCA of Montclair.

We reserve the right to deny membership access to any person whose behavior is determined to conflict with the welfare and safety of other members and staff. This includes a person who is a registered sexual offender, has pleaded guilty to or has been convicted of any crime involving sexual abuse, or a crime against persons such as a child, spousal or parental abuse. It will also include any offense related to the sale or transportation of illegal, habit-forming, or dangerous drugs that are presently clearly under the influence of intoxicating beverages or behavior-modifying drugs.

This code of conduct does not permit language or any action that can hurt or frighten another person or fall below a generally accepted standard of conduct. This includes inappropriate attire, angry or vulgar language, physical contact with another person in an angry or threatening way, any demonstration of sexual contact or activity, harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language, or any other menacing behavior, theft, or behavior destroying property. Parents are held responsible for the conduct of their children.

The YMCA is an alcohol, drug, weapon, and smoke (including vaping) free environment. This includes any devices or objects which could be used or perceived as weapons.

WE PROHIBIT THE ABUSE OR MISTREATMENT OF OUR MEMBERS/ PARTICIPANTS

The YMCA of Montclair has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of members and participants in its programs. Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement.

WE PROHIBIT THE ABUSE OR MISTREATMENT OF ONE MEMBER/PARTICIPANT BY ANOTHER MEMBER/PARTICIPANT

The YMCA of Montclair has zero tolerance for abuse, mistreatment, or sexual activity among members/participants within the organization. The Y is committed to providing all members/participants with a safe environment and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of one member by another member. Conduct by members that rises to abuse, mistreatment, or sexual activity will result in intervention or disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from the program. In addition, the Y will not tolerate any behavior classified under the definition of bullying. To the extent that such actions are disruptive, the Y will take necessary steps to eliminate such behavior.

MEMBERSHIP RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES

YMCA of Montclair reserves the right to revoke or deny membership privileges if a member:

abuses or misuses any YMCA-owned or operated equipment or facilities,
engages in conduct, which is abusive, illegal, disruptive, or poses a threat to others,
engages in activities contrary to the mission and purpose of the YMCA,
is identified as a registered sex offender through our sex offender screening or
is consistently threatening or abusive to staff or other members.

The Executive Director has the authority to deny or suspend membership privileges at any time. The Chief Operations Officer will be consulted for permanent revocation of membership privileges.

SEX OFFENDER SCREENING

The YMCA conducts regular sex offender screenings on all members, participants, and guests. If a sex offender match occurs, the YMCA reserves the right to cancel membership, end program participation, and remove visitation access.

All programs, activities and schedules are subject to change. Please check MotionVibe for the most current information.
Membership cards must be presented at every visit.
Cell phones may only be used in the lobby areas.
Photos: Permission must be granted from Y Administration prior to taking any photos or videos.
The Y is not responsible for personal items. Secure all items in a locked locker.
Proper athletic attire and footwear is required. Rubber sole and closed toe shoes only. For safety reasons, open toe shoes are not permitted.
Adult fitness classes are open to members 13 and older. Mature behavior must be exhibited at all times by teen members in order to participate in the adult classes.
PRE-REGISTRATION: Reservations are required for Aquatics and Group Exercise classes on our MotionVibe online program.
Please bring a water bottle, towel, and mat if needed.
Please wipe down equipment before and after each use. Cleaning supplies are provided..
For safety reasons, children may not accompany adults into workout areas.
Cardio rooms are for Y members 13 and older.
The weight room is for Y members 13 and older.
Youth Facility Usage
- Youth members ages 12 and under must be under the supervision of an adult at all times while at the Y.
- Youth members must be engaged in an activity. Wandering the building is not permitted.

Locker Rooms

Daily lockers are available for all members free of charge; please bring your own lock. Locks are available for purchase at the Park Street Branch Welcome Center. Should a lock be left on a daily locker overnight, it will be cut off.

Kit (Box) Size Lockers in the Men’s daily locker room area. Cost: $13/month.
Women’s Large Lockers in the Women’s permanent locker area. Cost: $25/month.

The YMCA of Montclair strongly recommends locking your belongings while you work out. We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or broken belongings.

The YMCA of Montclair is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and wants to ensure everyone feels welcome and safe at our Y.

The YMCA of Montclair's policy regarding our Women's and Men's locker rooms is no one under 18 is permitted to use these spaces, and individuals are permitted to use restrooms and locker rooms corresponding to their identified gender or expression per New Jersey's Law Against Discrimination (LAD).

Single-use restrooms/showers are available for those who want additional privacy.

Make Up Policy

Attendance is important! In order to achieve the greatest benefit from additional fee classes, attendance at every class is highly recommended. Refunds and credits will not be issued due to absences.

Member Termination

Membership Cards

Membership Cards are issued to all members. Please present your card at the Front Desk for scanning at the Rapid Check In station. Members who have don’t have their ID will be asked to go to a separate station to be manually checked in. Access to the Y facilities may be denied if the membership card is not presented. For your convenience, apps are available to access your card on your smart phone.

Replacement Card Fee $10 per card

Membership Holds

Family, Adult, Young Adult and Senior members are able to put their memberships on hold for a maximum of six months during a 12-month period. The fee for a membership hold is $10 per month. There is no charge or time limit for a medical hold, however, we must have documentation from a doctor to support a medical hold.

E-Pay Members

All holds begin on the 15th of the month and end the 15th of the returning month.
The hold request must be received in writing or in person at the Park Street Branch Welcome Desk by the 8th of the month so as not to be drafted the full membership fee on the 15th of the month.
The $10 per month hold charge will be drafted on the 15th of each month that the membership remains on hold.

Annual Members

Holds must be taken in 1 month increments.
The $10 per month hold charge must be paid in full prior at the time the hold is requested.

Registration

If you’re a current member and your email address is on file, you can register for classes online or in person. We can’t accept phone registrations. Registration is on a first-come first-served basis. All fees are non-refundable except as indicated under our refund policy.

If you’re a current member and your email address is not on file, please see a Member Services representative to verify your email address and to receive your temporary login and password prior to registering.

Sauna & Steam Rooms

Member must adhere to the following rules when using our sauna and steam rooms:

Proper attire is required while in the sauna (bathing suit preferred) or sit on a towel to protect the wood from perspiration and to protect other members using the sauna.
Individuals should shower before using the sauna.
Do not exercise, smoke, eat or drink while in the sauna.
Do not spend more than thirty (30) minutes in the sauna.
Do not use the sauna if you are under 18.
No shaving.
Clothing worn to work out or during exercise class cannot be worn in the sauna.
Street shoes and clothing are not to be worn in the sauna.
No cell phones.
